Trestle outdoor table

Our brief was to design and build an outdoor table using bridge beams our client had sitting under trees for several years. The table had to be as long as possible while working within the constraints of the beam sizes. Several 3D drawings were presented to the client, this one being chosen for its appearance and practicality. The trestle base allows the table to be stored under cover during winter but also hints at New Zealand’s pioneering days and compliments the rustic look of the hardwood timber. The cross banded timber planks at each end of the table allowed us to extend the table top to a more usable size.

Due to the high moisture content of the timber, no glue has been used. All joins are held by invisible tenons and galvanised bolts. Hemp rope and copper ferrules continued the authentic appearance.
